Invoke Poetry Workshops

7 March @ 18:30 - 20:00

£4

Invoke Poetry Workshops:

Invoke Poetry Workshops are creative writing poetry workshops centred on providing the tools, space and support for anybody who has the urge to write their own poetry.

Whether it’s your first time writing a poem, you have a multitude of unfinished ideas in your notes or you’re looking for a place to be inspired to fuel your hundredth poem. Whatever your experience so far, these workshops are intended to get your creativity flowing, build your confidence in your writing and unleash your self-expression through poetry.

Each workshop’s unique prompt is set to expand your knowledge on either a specific theme such as nature, love or loss or around a specific poetic form such as the villanelle, sonnet or odes. Together you will explore the history of poetry, analyse examples from across the canon and break down how they are constructed. Through this historical and contextual knowledge, you can set off down the path of your creative journey to a poem of your own writing. Whether this is directly influenced by the workshop’s prompt or heading down a branching path of your own poetic ideas; we will support and guide you to create a piece of work that invokes your unique self.

Oliver Nicol:

Oliver Nicol is a prominent figure in Nottingham’s literary community, known for their contributions as a Researcher & Writer for the Notts TV Book Club and as a member of the Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature Youth Board. Nicol’s passion for poetry was ignited during their studies at Nottingham Trent University, where they were introduced to the Pulitzer Prize-winning collection ‘Life on Mars’ by Tracy K. Smith. This work had a profound impact on Nicol, who drew inspiration from Smith’s ability to showcase the limitless possibilities of poetry, demonstrating that it is not bound by rules or conventions. By incorporating these elements into their own work, Nicol strives to further the appreciation of poetry and inspire others to explore its boundless potential.
