Please note: NWS critique groups are open to NWS members only. To find out more about becoming a member, click here.
NWS members benefit from a critique group service. If you are a member and would be interested in joining a critique group, please read on about how to become part of one!
What is a critique group?
A critique group is a group of writers who meet on a regular basis to share their work with each other and receive feedback. This also means a commitment to reading the work of other writers and providing thoughtful feedback on their work.
What are the benefits?
Critique groups have lots of advantages, including gaining multiple points of view from other writers on a piece of work, a group of people committed to giving you advice if you have specific concerns, and the opportunity to critically read the work of others, which helps develop your critical eye and refine your own taste as a reader and writer.
How does the NWS critique group service work?
To join a critique group through NWS, please follow these steps:
- Decide you’d like to join a critique group (hooray!) and fill out the form below. Please make sure that you scroll down and click submit when you have completed the form.
- Be patient! We will get in contact with you when we have up to four other members who are also interested in joining a similar critique group to you. As this is a new service, we can’t yet give you an estimated waiting time – it could be a few days or a few months.
- Receive an introductory email and critique group guide from NWS, introducing you to the other members of your new critique group.
- You’re off! Arrange a meeting time that works for everyone and agree on a submission schedule.
Please note that you must be an NWS member to benefit from this service. Please also note that NWS unfortunately does not have the resources to provide support for critique groups or to run them, beyond putting you in touch with other interested parties and providing the critique group guide to help you; critique groups must be self-sustaining and self-run. However, we can offer you free use of the NWS studio and zoom account for critique group meetings, depending on availability.
Please get in touch with us over email at email@example.com if you have any questions. Please include the words ‘Critique group’ in the subject line of your email to help us respond to you more quickly.
