About this collection…

In March 2020, once we accepted we couldn’t be in the studio due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we decided we wanted to come out of such an uncertain period with something positive to show for it. We thought this would be a great time to get people writing for a virtual project and add another publishing credit to their resumes.

We asked our members to submit original works on the theme of “the world outside” – what they missed, what self-isolation felt like, what they wanted to do as soon as we could get back out there, or simply what came to mind using the words as a prompt. 

In response, we received a wonderful array of pieces, ranging from emotional real-life writings to thought provoking poems and fantastic fictions.

The final publication was released in August, and also marked out first full in-house collaboration with The Carousel, being printed by Dizzy Ink with accompanying illustrations by Zena Kay.

While we were unable to celebrate its release in person, we didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to showcase our extremely talented cohort of writers. A virtual launch video was produced by the studio to mark the occasion, featuring remotely recorded readings by zine contributors as well as a message from the Chair of Nottingham Writers’ Studio, Alan Walker.
