Have you walked past the Studio, or heard about us and wondered what we are all about?
Here it is—a summary of what we do and how we can help professional and aspiring writers alike, with five reasons to join Nottingham Writers’ Studio:
1. All Writers Welcome
We are run by writers for writers.
It doesn’t matter what stage you’re currently at in your writing career, what you write, or your background—you are welcome.
Everyone needs support, encouragement and resources, and with access to advice, workspace, creative and professional support, events and more, Nottingham Writers’ Studio is here to help all writers at all stages of their journey.
All writers are likely to know how lonely a writer’s life can be—at lower times, perhaps even bordering into the tedium!
Even introverts, or those who may prefer their own company, still need some sense of community and contact with people on a similar journey to their own.
One of my favourite things about the Studio is the sense of community, and knowing I can drop in more or less anytime to a comfortable space and connect with like-minded people is just fantastic.
The first time I attended an event at the Studio I was invited on a 3-day writers’ retreat. Stepping slightly out of my comfort zone I decided to give it a go, and ended up having 3 wonderful days bonding with several wonderful writers who I expect to be lifelong friends with.
With events, community boards, co-working space and tea and coffee facilities, there’s lots of options.
Perhaps ask for suggestions or critiques from fellow writers when you need it the most during that vital edit, or even just give yourself a much needed ‘pause’ from what you are working on.
Whatever you need, the space is there for you to use as you desire.
Not necessarily a writer but need a co-working space? With the rise of remote working, you’re not alone. That’s is why we offer a Co-Working Membership option for just £50 a year.

4. Build Confidence
You might not know that up until as little as 12 months ago, I was very nervous about sharing my work with other people.
That’s all changed since joining the Studio.
I have gone from being fearful about letting others read my poetry, to being able to stand up in front of an audience and perform them.
I share and get feedback for the short stories I write, and I have helped many other writers when they need feedback.
I have learnt that we all have fears and doubts over our work, and many writers—including myself—have learnt to overcome them with the help of Nottingham Writers’ Studio.
5. Success Stories
There are many success stories you will hear from writers who have joined the Studio, but women’s fiction writer Kristina Adams is one strong inspiration.
In 2015 Kristina attended a workshop by Joanna Penn, writer of several bestselling indie books, and was inspired to step into the world of self-publishing.
Since then Kristina published 3 books in just 15 months, and is currently working on her next one—and having become heavily attached to the main character, I know there are many of us eagerly awaiting for publication!
There you have it!
