We are currently seeking expressions of interest for Non-executive directors for Nottingham Writers’ Studio
Nottingham Writers’ Studio (NWS) is seeking expressions of interest for two non-executive directors to join our Board to offer strategic, specialist and objective advice. Our current Board is made up of members of NWS and we are currently in transition, moving from a company limited by guarantee to a charitable incorporated company.
We have already recruited three new non-executive board members and looking for a further two expressions of interest from people with the following specialisms: financial planning and sustainability; audience development, encouraging diversity.
Nottingham Writers’ Studio is a unique writing-focused community, a space where writing grows. Run by writers, for writers, at all stages of their careers, NWS is committed to the craft of writing worth reading. We offer workspaces, networking, advice, and creative and professional support. NWS helps writers navigate the path from aspiration, through dedication, to publication. Our members include novelists, poets, scriptwriters, journalists, songwriters, bloggers, acclaimed playwrights and publishers, Man Booker shortlisted writers, a winner of the Dublin IMPAC Literary Award, as well as emerging writers working seriously towards publication. Our year-round development programmes help writers develop their craft and careers, from one-day writing intensives, to weekend retreats and evening classes, to ongoing critique and writing groups for NWS members. Most of our courses and events are open to all. Founded in 2006 to develop and celebrate writing in Nottingham, NWS has become one of Nottingham’s fastest-growing creative communities and an engine-house for new regional writing.
Plans for the Future
We plan to continue to offer professional development for writers in the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire area, with a series of development activities. We are also in the process of applying for charitable status and plan to offer creative writing on outreach to individuals and communities who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the creative and psychological satisfaction that creative writing can bring. This will benefit our writers too, offering them the opportunity to lead workshops and develop their facilitation and workshop skills.
Our vision is to bring the benefits of creative writing and literary activity to both writers and other sectors of the community, whilst continuing to provide a place to write and a place to be a writer.
NWS is unique in focussing on the needs of professional writers, and in turn supporting those professionals in utilising their skills in outreach to the wider community. We have therefore a unique, committed talent pool to draw on in working with the wider community and we will act as a conduit between our professional members and sectors of the community to develop literary activities.
