Writing for Wellbeing and Self-Discovery
5 October @ 10:00 - 13:00
Nottingham Writers’ Studio is a hub for writing for wellbeing and creative writing for therapeutic purposes. Our three tutors – Thom Seddon, Samantha Gray, and Lizzie Dunford provide courses than enable writers to explore their passion and develop their craft in a safe and pressure-free environment.
This month, Lizzie Dunford is facilitating a one-off Writing for Wellbeing and Self-Discovery session. Lizzie will be using art materials, pictures, and poetry to explore colour, our associations with colour, and how we use can use colour in our creative writing.
The focus on the workshop is writing for self-development rather than aiming for the perfect end product. Participants will be encouraged to provide constructive, respectful feedback. You will take away some tips and ideas that will both develop your writing and improve your wellbeing.
Lizzie grew up in Ulster, where she scribbled stories as the Troubles rumbled. Studying English Literature at university scared her off writing for decades, during which she taught English in secondary schools. At the age of fifty, she began writing again and gained an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes with the Metanoia Institute. She is particularly interested in the relationship between creativity and well-being, especially mental health. Lizzie is an active member of Lapidus, the words for well-being association and has facilitated writing for well-being workshops for local Lapidus groups. Now working freelance, Lizzie is enjoying the vibrant writing community in Nottingham and is involved in writing groups in Bromley House Library and the Writers’ Highway. She enjoys writing (and sometimes performing) poetry.
