WRITE THAT SITE: A beginner’s guide to copywriting for your website

About this Event
Great website copy can help boost your reputation, increase traffic, inform the unaware about what you do and with the right call for action, help you to sell.
This introductory course will cover writing for different audiences, writing with clarity and transparency and how to create SEO-friendly copy for your web site.
Although it is a beginner’s course that will cover the basics, it will signpost writers onwards and encourage them to keep their copy fresh and relevant.
Throughout this course, you will…
- Learn about copywriting and how to make your words work harder.
- Look at how to organise and optimise what you want to say on your web site.
- Discover SEO (Search Engine Optimisation,) the act of trying to get ranked in the top results of a search engine.
- Think about how to use your web site as a marketing tool, a shop window, and a way to communicate with customers.
Session 1: Tuesday 10th November @ 6.30pm – 7.30pm (via Zoom)
A live introductory one-hour session online. Following the introduction, an assignment module will be sent to all participants by email. You will have a week to complete the tasks which should take 3-4 hours.
Session 2: Tuesday 17th November
Either by phone or via email, participants will receive individual feedback and next steps from the tutor. You will then have another week to redraft and progress your work for sharing at the final session.
Session 3: Tuesday 24th November @ 6.30pm – 7.30pm
Live session 2 which will be online and comprise of peer reviews and next steps for all participants.
About Sian Tower
Sian is an experienced commercial copywriter who has worked for both advertising agencies and in-house. She has written for and about a wide range of industries and for companies such as Booking.com, Citroen UK and the YHA.
She works with hundreds of writers every year, delivering workshops, summer schools and events. Last year, as Writer in Residence with the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, she worked with wildlife presenter, Chris Packham, to publish Sky Dancer, a wild anthology written by children.

This workshop will be delivered online via Zoom. Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service you can use to virtually meet with others – either by video or audio-only or both. A user manual containing access instructions and a link will be sent out to you 1-day before the workshop. You will need an internet connection, and a computer with either a built in camera or webcam, and a built-in microphone/speaker.
