Words for Wellbeing Taster Day
8 December @ 11:00 - 16:00
A words for wellbeing taster day with the words for wellbeing team, Lizzie, Sam and Thom.
About this Event
Spend a relaxed day with the words for wellbeing team at Nottingham Writers’ Studio. With their own unique approaches to expressive writing and Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes, Lizzie, Sam and Thom will each be leading part of the workshop, inviting participants to focus on writing for pleasure, enjoyment and therapeutic purposes with no pressure to critique or refine!
This workshop is part of the Studios continued journey establishing itself as a hub for words for wellbeing in the Midlands, and will contribute towards our goals of expanding our outreach in the New Year.
As part of the day, participants will be asked to complete a quick and confidential evaluation / provide brief feedback based on their experience of the day, which will help with our facilitation of these workshops in the future.
Please bring a packed lunch, or feel free to pop over to the local eateries in Sneinton Market.
About Thom, Sam & Lizzie
Thom has been a practitioner and facilitator of Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes since 2012, having graduated from a Masters course in 2015. He actually completed a Creative Writing degree first which – although helpful – did a lot of damage towards his self-confidence as a writer; always seeing negatives and getting hung up on editing! Discovering CWTP broke down this barrier, allowing him to find his voice again, and once more write for personal fulfilment without worrying about publication. This is the viewpoint Thom now loves sharing with others in his workshops.
Sam studied Creative Writing with the Open University and became increasingly involved in therapeutic writing, facilitating workshops in a variety of community and healthcare settings. In 2011, Sam wrote an article about the ways in which writing can support us through the bereavement process (Gray, S, 2011, Routledge), she has been working with the Writers’ Studio since January 2017 delivering ‘Words for Wellbeing’ courses.
Lizzie began writing at the age of fifty and gained an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes with the Metanoia Institute. She is particularly interested in the relationship between creativity and well-being, especially mental health. Lizzie is an active member of Lapidus, the words for well-being association and has facilitated writing for well-being workshops for local Lapidus groups.
