About the course
“In a way winter is the real spring, the time when the inner things happen…” Edna O’Brian
Bringing the light of creativity into the New Year, this six-week sequence provides a supportive, imaginative space for those who enjoy words to pause, take a breath and invest time in self-discovery. Using a range of literature – poems, lyrics and other creative springboards, we reflect on what it means to be human, exploring universal themes in a creative context. A combination of reading, group discussion and expressive/creative writing techniques will be used to promote self-understanding and personal growth. Sessions provide the tools for making new connections with ourselves and others, nurturing creativity and building self-understanding. The therapeutic benefits of both reading and writing are becoming increasingly recognised. Here, the focus will be on the expression of the writer’s thoughts, feelings and creativity as a means to achieve greater self-awareness, balance and clarity.
What you will learn
The focus of this course is creativity, wellbeing and the ways in which these enhance each other. Experientially, participants will develop an understanding of the many ways that words – written, spoken and heard – can be used to promote personal growth, strengthening the connection to ourselves and others.
Participants will have the opportunity to experience a variety of writing techniques, many of which can be used in a personal journal. A love of words is a wonderful starting point, but participants new to writing will benefit just as much as those with experience.
