About this event

During this 2-part course, through working imaginatively and reflectively with words, our focus will be to cultivate clarity and direction in our writing practice and personal worlds. The nature of the sessions is gently experiential and will open a space for participants to explore their personal and professional intentions as we move into the autumn months. Working therapeutically with words can be a way to realign with our true needs and uncover the things that nourish our wellbeing, moving closer towards bringing them into our everyday experience. This course is open to all, the sessions will offer a pressure-free space to be creative and time to reflect in a safe, small group setting.

As we tentatively surface from a period of deep change and transition, this gentle, Words for Wellbeing sequence explores the potential of writing to bring a greater sense of control and purpose to our forward journey. Experiencing simple, reflective journaling techniques and a range of creative openings, we will work to connect with our inner life and nourish our creative world. These sessions will be a chance to recognise and work with what blocks our path, both as writers and on our personal journey. We will set positive intentions that support wellbeing as we take steps forward and work to identify goals that feel meaningful and growth-promoting.

By the end of the course, you will…

  • Learn to nurture your creativity and relax into writing
  • Make space for self-reflection
  • Identify writing/personal goals and set future intentions
  • Explore blocks to our creative life and work with techniques to dissolve these blocks.
  • Make connections – have the chance to be supported and support others.

About Samantha Gray

Samantha Gray started life as a teacher and has recently gained credentials with the ‘International Federation of Biblio/Poetry Therapy’ to work in the field of poetry therapy – the interactive use of literature to promote healing.

Sam studied Creative Writing with the Open University and became increasingly involved in therapeutic writing, facilitating workshops in a variety of community and healthcare settings. In 2011, she wrote an article about the ways in which writing can support us through the bereavement process (Gray, S, 2011, Routledge). She has been working with the Nottingham Writers’ Studio since January 2017 delivering ‘Words for Wellbeing’ courses.

This workshop will be delivered online via Zoom. Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service you can use to virtually meet with others – either by video or audio-only or both. A link will be sent out shortly before the workshop to the email address you enter at the time of booking.
