About the event
We’re excited to be relaunching our first-class Urban Writing Retreats at the Studio!
A writing retreat is a whole day devoted to writing. Six supported hours to immerse yourself in creativity and write to your heart’s content.
- Get going with exciting warm-up exercises
- Take part in focused writing sprints
- Let ideas flow in informative discussions
- Interact with fellow writers
- Bounce ideas back and forth with your peers
This inspiring set-up will give you the space writers so often cruelly deny themselves to fully engage with writing. No matter your writing style or chosen medium – be it poetry and memoir, to fiction and script – your tutor is on hand to provide support and facilitate you breezing through your word count and getting closer to that elusive final draft! If you want to stay longer you can; just because your tutor might go home at 4 pm doesn’t mean you have to!
Our main aim is words on the page, but we’ll also improve our craft and build links between writers. Writing prompts and exercises can be provided for those who don’t have a current project on the go.
This a great opportunity to talk about problems with a work-in-progress, turn the shadow of an idea into words on paper, get ideas for starting something new, work through an issue with a character or even figure out what kind of writing really interests you.
From experienced writers working on their next best-seller to beginning writers starting their first story, every writer will find the urban writing retreat useful.
About Thom Seddon
In addition to being the Development Manager at the Studio, Thom Seddon is writer and performer from Nottingham. He has published two collections to date, The Smart Mouthed Victim and Death is Awful for the Living, each featuring poetic content that is both social commentary and personal confession. His body of creative work weaves together a fresh contemporary style with magical realism; black comedy with a romantic twist. He deems himself a representative of the weird and the queer. He has an MA in Creative Writing, and an MSc in Creative Writing Therapy, and has performed across the UK as a songwriter, drag queen and spoken word artist.
