Of Course You Can Write: Building your confidence as a writer

5 August @ 18:30 - 20:30

About this event

We should only judge our success against the writer we were yesterday – not the seemingly endless tales of sales and prizes we see on social media. Comparison really is the thief of joy, and when we spend too much time focusing on what others are doing, we subconsciously chip away at our own confidence or belief that we’re able to achieve whatever we put our minds to!

If like us, you’re feeling a little burnt out, or like your confidence has taken a knock recently why not join Patsy Collins this August for an evening of writing activities designed to show you that you have the ability to be a writer as well as the potential to improve upon your existing skills.

You’ll explore good word choices, how to create a vivid mental picture, show not tell and learn to navigate some common yet potentially confusing writing advice. Patsy will create a gentle, non-intimidating setting so that participants feel confident to share their work with the group following the activities. There will also be an opportunity to share concerns and ask questions.

Throughout this session, you will learn…

  • Your writing strengths by beginning to improve your work, and discovering ways you can continue to do this.
  • Whether you should “kill your darlings”, what show not tell really means and why interesting speech tags make dull reading
  • To articulate and share your writing concerns and difficulties so that they can be overcome.
  • To share your work with others needn’t be terrifying
  • That you are writers!!
