In Conversation with NWS Members: Poetry and Performance with Laura Grevel
11 February @ 18:30 - 19:15

About this Event
NWS introduces a new series of workshops, “In Conversation with NWS Members” where we invite members of our talented cohort of writers to talk about their writing style, process, and works-in-progress!
The second session in this series is brought to you by poet and performer, Laura Grevel. Laura will talk about her writing and work before she treats us to a couple of performances. She’ll explore how she got into spoken word, why she thinks such work is important, how she develops new ideas into performances, and how shes continued this work in light of the pandemic.
Laura will finish up by touching upon how she started blogging, how she finds topics to blog about, and some top tips for others who are considering engaging with this form of social media.
The floor will then open up for a Q&A!
About Laura
Laura Grevel is a lively, Nottingham-based spoken word poet and blogger. Laura began spoken word in the 1990s, and has performed from the trails of Texas to mountainous Europe to the woolly Midlands. Her work tackles the immigrant experience, depression, gun control, and even grackle squawks. She began her blog, “Tellin’ Stories—Laura Grevel Blogs on Life and Writing” in 2015, and has built up a following based on stories that are about connection: people to people, and people to nature.
Laura has performed at DIY Poets’ events, Nottingham Poetry Festival, Little Ed Festival in Derby, Hockley Hustle, and Beeston and Leicester Word! Her written work has been published in U.S. anthologies and newspapers, on podcasts, and the DIY Poets’ Zine.
