Exploring Identity through Poetry

7 April @ 19:00 - 21:00

About this Event

Join Edalia Day in this kickass writing workshop interrogating language and labels. Using a range of creative exercises as starting points, you will write your own poems exploring the influences that have shaped who we are, examining ideas around gender, class, privilege, ethnicity, ableism, and identity.

We’ll write from our own experiences and use imagination exercises to put ourselves in other people’s shoes. Using examples of writing by trans and disabled poets, we’ll explore creative ways of expressing what it means to be seen as different, as well as taking a playful approach to flip stereotypes on their heads.

Throughout the session, participants will:

  • Explore character in writing, putting ourselves in other people’s shoes.
  • Play with and against stereotypes.
  • Widen your knowledge of trans and disabled poets.
  • Expand the range of words we reach for when we think about ourselves.
