Creative writing for therapeutic purposes and wellbeing

Creative writing for therapeutic purposes is a series of 4 accessible workshops working in the realms of expressive writing and writing for wellbeing with a specific focus on mental and physical wellness. Participants will be invited to take part in creative writing exercises that focus on positive, personal result and enjoyment as opposed to commercial success or a perfect end product (although high quality, publishable material can often develop from the exercise prompts). While the primary focus is on creative writing, participants will also take part in a variety of exercises including sketching, drawing, visualising and working with found materials. Participants are also encouraged (not forced) to share their work with one another throughout the duration of the course thus also helping to build each other’s confidence in performing and public speaking/sharing.
The course aims to engage participants with creative writing and the ways in which words can be used to promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
Thom has been a practitioner and facilitator of Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes since 2012, having graduated from a masters course in 2015. He actually completed a Creative Writing degree first which – although helpful – did a lot of damage towards his self-confidence as a writer; always seeing negatives and getting hung up on editing! Discovering CWTP broke down this barrier, allowing him to find his voice again, and once more write for personal fulfilment without worrying about publication. This is the viewpoint Thom now loves sharing with others in his workshops.
