Coaching for 500 words
15 December @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
One event on 15 December, 2018 at 2:00pm
Have you got a little budding writer in the family itching to tell their stories?
Several years ago, Chris Evans had a dream to get children excited about reading and writing. All children, no matter what their ability. 500 Words is one of the most successful short story-writing competitions for kids aged 5-13 and applications will open in January 2019.
If you know a child within this age range* that is keen to put pen to paper and craft their own short story then the Nottingham Writers’ Studio might be able to help!
What you will learn
Local children’s writer, Steve Katon and storyteller F.T. Gibbet will be running coaching sessions on Saturday 15th December with the aim of equipping would-be entrants with all the tools they need to write an award-winning short story.
There will be two sessions for each of the age categories in the competition.
Session 1 for 5 to 9-year-olds will run between 10-12:00
Session 2 for 10-13-year-olds will run between 14:00-16:00
£7 will secure a place on a session (children need to bring their own writing materials).
*500 Words entrants must be at least 5 or at most 13 years-of-age at the date of the final in June 2019 – the exact date is still to be announced but it’s usually early in the month.
About Steve Katon
Steve graduated from The Open University with a first-class BA honours degree in English Literature (specialising in children’s literature & creative writing). He lives in Nottingham with his wife, two daughters and their dog.
Steve likes reading books, talking about books and writing books. He can mostly be found exploring the inside of his head (he’s currently good friends with a dragon he met there). Oh, and canoeing, he’s recently discovered he loves canoeing
About F.T. Gibbet
Flibber-ty-gibbet ‘A flighty teller of tales’…
F.T.Gibbet (a.k.a Fiona Lily) is a writer, singer/songwriter, producer and illustrator with Masters Degrees in Creative Writing and Songwriting.
She lives in the Midlands with two cats, a fox and a family of squirrels.
When she’s not writing or making music or having SongStarz related shenanigans (www.songstarz.com), Fi enjoys keeping up with new developments in science and technology and also doing a bit of organic gardening – for which she has more enthusiasm than skill judging by the size of the brambles in her garden.
Tickets cost £7 per person. To book your tickets, follow the link to the Eventbrite page below.
