An Introduction to Experimental Poetry: An Overview of Different Practices
20 January @ 18:30 - 20:30
About this event
As an introduction to experimental poetry writing, this one-off two-hour workshop will provide an overview of different experimental poetry practices, including: visual and concrete poetry, sound poetry, pangrammatic poetry, palindromes and anagram poetry, conceptual poetry and various other experiments championed by the Oulipians.
Throughout this course you will…
- Understand the context and history behind each of these experiments, and investigate what the value of experimental poetry is (have you ever thought why you would write a palindrome?).
- Explore the work of contemporary experimental poets, and understand where writers can get their experimental poetry published today.
- Explore new kinds of poetry you might not have experienced before, dismantling the idea that the only type of poetry is verse on a page.
- Be inspired to try new poetic experiments you may not yet have encountered, discover the history of experimental writing, and leave equipped with the knowledge needed to publish your experimental poetry today.
