An important message from the NWS Team

Dear All,

Like everyone else, we don’t know how long COVID-19 will continue to have an impact on the community, but we do know there’s a possibility it will negatively affect the Writers’ Studio.

Over the past 12 months we’ve worked with great passion, enthusiasm and drive to not only run the studio, but give it a new lease of life as part of The Carousel while remaining a standalone focal point of the vibrant creative community in Nottingham. It feels very unfortunate that something beyond our control now threatens to undo not only our hard work, but the commitment we have to our shareholders; members, workshops leaders, volunteers, and all those who run events from our space.

As advice stands today, ticketed workshop events will still go ahead on the understanding of personal responsibility being exercised by those attending. Workshops never consist of more than 16 persons at most and we rely heavily on these events to pay our overheads. If you’re displaying any symptoms from a cough to a temperature, continue to self-isolate – but if you’re fit and well to attend, remember you’re helping to keep the studio going as well as supporting the tutor in paying their bills!

As our landlords, The Carousel have also put safeguarding measures in place for the whole building, including signage on handwashing and disinfectant/sanitizer being made available.

That being said, non-essential events without charge such as our socials and the AGM will be postponed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will update with new dates as soon as we can.

We anticipate that despite these measures being in place we’ll still struggle over the upcoming months with ticket sales and use of the space. And so we ask in earnest to anyone who’s taken the time to read this, whether you’re a member currently or have been the past, enjoyed one of our workshops, or made a connection at the Studio over the years, please support the studio if you’re able. We want to still be here when this virus has passed!

You can become a patron of the studio, leaving us forever indebted and eternally grateful to you – click here for our newly updated Patreon page – or you can donate to us via PayPal (this link supports card payments). If you’re unable to offer support at this time, please share with a friend who might be able to. Anything would help us during this period of uncertainty.

All best wishes, and look after yourselves!

Thom, Sophie & Alan
