Zines vs the Facebook Generation
We're squeezing an extra social in for January 2012, with LeftLion Books Editor James Walker interviewing Annelise Atkinson, who's been
camped out in her Caribou Caravan at Hopkinsons the last few months keeping the
zine scene alive.
"Annelise is an analogue kid trapped in a digital universe with a
fetish for anything handmade. She’s on a mission to return the written
word back to its humble DIY beginnings when a photocopier, staple,
paper and idea were enough to get across your message."
- Are zines an antidote to the facebook generation?
- Does everyone crave a global audience?
- Is there something magical about discovering a few individual, handmade copies?
- A way of bringing the value of the object back into the experience of reading.
- Could zines be seen as a spin-off for writers or a way to promote their work?
We'll be debating all these issues, as well as showing how to make zines and demonstrating some examples.
Starts at 7.30pm, Wednesday 18 January 2012, at NWS (how to find us). Guests welcome.
