Rachael Pennells Naked Ambition
In the dressing rooms of Drury Lane, two girls perfect the art of seduction. With beauty and NAKED AMBITION they Transform themselves into paragons of pleasure and ascend to the highest echelons of society in Regency England.
Rachael Pennell's new play Naked Ambition, the third in her Georgian Trilogy, opens on June 11th and 12th at Buxton Opera House, and will also be playing at Lichfield Garrick (15 June) and Dempsey's Theatre and Bar in Sheffield (16–18 June).
In keeping with the philosophy of Lucky Fin Productions, this play explores the lives and works of famous, infamous or successful women who have somehow been all but forgotten by the passage of time.
The main focus of the narrative depicts the passionate lives of Emma Lyons and Eizabeth Armistead, while the subplot features Mrs Talbot and Mrs Charke, two of the most sexually ambiguous, intriguing women of the 18th century.
Naked Ambition closes Pennell's Georgian Trilogy, which began with Chocolateria Hysteria, which was set in Revolutionary France and received excellent reviews on its premiere performances at Lichfield Garrick and Buxton Opera House.
The Trilogy continued with Acting on Instinct, depicting the lives of actresses and writers in 18th-century London, and which featured as a season highlight for Buxton Opera House last year. Each play stands alone telling the tales of pinoneering women who overcame prejudice, poverty and pain to live life to the full.
