Access and Security:

  • All members shall undertake to keep the front door locked at all times. Access to the building is gained by using the fobs which are for members’ use only.
  • No member shall lend, give or share their key fob.
  • Any member who loses their key-fob shall inform the Studio Coordinator as soon as possible. A replacement will be supplied using the £10 deposit. A new £10 deposit will be requested.
  • All members shall sign in and out when accessing the communal/hot desk space using the book on the coffee table.
  • Members can sign guests in for specific purposes – ie: to hold a meeting, or to show a prospective member around.
  • Non-members will be allowed to attend specific events (such as workshops, book launches and readings) at the discretion of the event organiser or the Studio Coordinator.

Guests:

  • Members may sign in bona fide guests for specific purposes – ie: to hold a meeting, or to show a prospective member around.
  • Members may bring the same guest to no more than three NWS events per year without prior permission of the Studio Coordinator.
  • The Member will be fully responsible for his or her guest(s) behaviour whilst they are in the building.
  • Guests may not remain after the Member responsible for them has left the building unless another Member signs them in again.
  • Anti-social or aggressive behaviour by Members or guests will not be tolerated. The Board will take appropriate action against any report of such that may include barring individuals or a review of Membership in accordance with clause 4(ii) of the NWS Constitution.
  • Non-members will be allowed to attend specific events (such as workshops, book launches and readings) at the discretion of the event organiser or the Studio Coordinator.

Fair Use:

  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building.
  • Noise levels should reflect the fact that others may be working in the space at the same time – please use earphones if viewing film or listening to music. Please be considerate.
  • The playing of music/watching of films etc should be subject to agreement of others within the building at the same time.
  • Members should be considerate of other members and users of the building at all times.
  • At events where Members bring and share refreshments, Members should ensure that they arrive with adequate supplies for their (and their guests’) likely needs, rather than relying on the generosity of other members.

Cleaning and Maintenance:

  • All NWS members must clean up after themselves – that includes mugs washed up and put back in the kitchen cupboard labeled Nottingham Writers’ Studio and cleaning the microwave, surfaces and any plates, cutlery etc that have been used.
  • In the case of meetings/events, the organizers will be responsible for cleaning up afterwards.
  • Books and journals are to stay on the premises (with the exception of bookshare) or any items taken to photocopy. These must be returned within the hour.
